Creative differences, internal disputes, miserable live moments and otherwise have contributed to a much needed end to what has been a difficult but flawed period in my music career. I will say that is was wonderful as I did get to work with Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal, Carlo Tonalezzi (Cerbero) and Veronica Bellino (13)...the record ended up being a professional, listenable product and otherwise the experience at One East was wonderful.

In the end though, I was asked to change lyrics, sacrifice a band name for something I thought less of and otherwise gave up rights to many creative ideas that in retrospect, meant quite a bit to me. This alone created a seed of dissent that makes continuing the Solis Rex project in any elongated period to be a very difficult process.

Summarily, the seed of Black Moon Rising (and the new BMR record I've been promising) and the lost ideas of Solis Rex are now born into a new project named LUCIFER JONES. More on this later...keep checking back.

The solo record is once again moving. Bass on the track "Built to Burn" is currently being handled by Ryan "Ryno" Weiss (of Chemikiller fame) and this is allowing me to focus on various guitar/vocal tracking as well as a few other important aspects of the new record. As Dennis is no longer producing I will rent a studio and get this piece of sonic "boom" completed. The making of my new solo album has been something of an experience that has taught me more than I ever thought I would know about the record making industry. Time is time, and I have never been good with time so my production partnership (though not recording partnership) with Dennis Leeflang has come to an end and I am moving on to pastures that while not "better", are more tenable to the relative instabilities of my lifestyle. We had three songs in the "half-done" stages and two that have yet to be touched. As with anything, music takes time and if that time is too long, it takes too long.

More updates soon...but this is where things stand for now.

Recording isn't always what it seems...

Being in the studio has always been a painful time for me. I enjoy the process of writing and rehearsing material...but when it comes to recording, everything seems to become infinitely more stressful and difficult than it needs to be. That being said, the only two records that I have been given proper time to cut happen to be "The Horse Diaries" (Agnosis) and "Cerbero" (Cerbero) - one of which (the Cerbero) has yet to be released. That being said, this new solo album has been smooth sailing, partly due to it being my own material and partly due to Dennis being a patient and upbeat individual who doesn't step on my toes. On the yet to be released Solis Rex record I was given a scant two days to record and shape my vocals, on the Agnosis album "Zero" I was given slightly less than that. While they both stand as good records, I wish I could go back and re-record many moments...but one can be thankful that I was allowed to record many of the following live-shows to get the different sounds I wanted.

Needless to say, we're almost complete with the first single ("Heroin[e]" - to be released on amazon.com sales very soon...and possibly as a 7") and this has been a very relaxed recording process in comparison to anything I've been put through with a "band".

It's very important that a person works on his own material, as one tends to be more passionate about his own creations than those that others have a profound influence on.

More soon...but this is how things stand at the moment in the studio...as you can tell by the above image this has been a strange party indeed.

Is it a woman? Is it a drug? Is it a strange flying object from mars?

Actually, it's the first song we've started working on for the new "Aerik Von & The Choir of Wrath" release. On Saturday I took a trip over to 3113 studios with Dennis Leeflang to cut the scratch tracks (including a terrible, unreleasable vocal in which I filled in the now-blank verses with references to "worst songs ever" and "drinking coffee" - you know, the artisti process at it's best) and Dennis will be doing the drums either today or had them done yesterday.

Going back to the initial statement though, what is the song about? It's about a drug as a woman as a drug. Women and drugs are about the same thing. You get hooked on them, they make you broke and the eventually you end of quitting them wondering why you ever bothered in the first place. This seems to have been a very strange theme in my life over the years....henceforth it may be the first song in which I address the issue of "relationships" in any direct format.

I will update you further when more of this song comes together as it will be the first single for the coming release...

(I will also be starting a video blog and other nonsense to capture the building of this record - so keep checking back for video, audio and more of this nonsense written content).

It's ironic that in the planning phases of several records that never came to light that I always seemed to have a free moment to update the public on every thought process that crossed my mind and every idea I had that was rattling around like spare change. It's also ironic that I remain silent for a year when actual production begins on three very important projects, all which will see release in 2009. 2008 was a year of silence as I wasted much time pondering and not enough time doing.

While things simmer to a dull roar, I can now talk about what has been done as it has been done. Many more updates on these three important projects will be posted here as well as the process, photography and video representing these events.

For now I will simply post these three albums and titles to give you a feel for what has been going on...

I feel that a chapter in my musical career has been closed with the release of "The Horse Diaries". From the early Black Moon Rising recordings to the sophisticated work shown on the later Agnosis and Rampage releases...I've turned a significant corner both personally and musically. With over 150 tracks (if you include demos and live tracks) wandering the earth, much has been done and I'm rather proud of all of it.

Making music has been difficult for me recently and the changes in my personal life and career have lead to many different states of mind of which I am not fully able to make sense of. As a songwriter, music is a method to release and document - and if one has turned a page he may need to re-adjust his creative flow to match these changes. While it sounds somewhat easy, it's probably the most difficult undertaking of any musician.

As I re-launch my musical career with Rampage, Cerbero and Black Moon Rising I need to find the new voice to match what the old voice expressed in it's time. I have turned the final page of an era, but the new era is equally as nerve wracking and and difficult as the first day I attempted to write a lyric or pick up a guitar.

There are still so many stories to be told though...and the soundtracks to those stories are slowly coming together and will hopefully challenge and possibly transcend the works that precede them.

AGNOSIS is happy to announce the release the of THE HORSE DIARIES EP that was recorded in the Spring of 2005. This EP was recorded by the "Mk. II" lineup -- Andrew Jude Riotto (bass), Robin Koytcheff (guitar), and Aerik Von (vocals). The EP will be pressed in a strictly limited quantity on Dark Matter Recordings and will feature 4 studio tracks along with a number of live rarities. Artwork will be done by long-time Agnosis artist Derrick Koo.

The EP will be available in early January 2007. And to correspond to with the release of the album, there will be a one time only LIVE PERFORMANCE / RELEASE PARTY. The live lineup will be: Andrew Jude Riotto (bass), Robin Koytcheff (guitar), Aerik Von (vocals), and Bill Angelini (of Malstrom / Tides Within on drums). The show will take place Thursday January 4th, 2007 @ Ace of Clubs (NYC), performing alongside longtime allies Malstrom.

Yes, we are in the midst of beginning a new album. Older tracks such as "Dreamcatcher", "Black Moon Rising" (formerly "Crazy Moon") and "Lord of the Gallows" will sit alongside new material such as "Profane Architect" and "The Pale Criminal". We're busy rehearsing this material for future shows, and of course the album will be previewed live before it actually hits the shelves. The shows will NOT be a review of old material only. Most of the material is being written by me, but Andrew and the new drummer will most certainly be allowed to add any input they so desire.

The first rehearsal in what has been an aeon (or at least since summer) went rather well. We recorded new (rehearsal quality) versions of "Lord of the Gallows"/"Black Moon Rising" (formerly "Crazy Moon") and the band seemed rather tight despite new membership and a considerable layoff.

The building of all-new song structures/band line-ups has made things a little more difficult than in the past, but Andrew seems up to the challenge. As always, tidbits of the rehearsal were recorded and may find themselves on a box-set ten years from now.

The band is going strong and some kind of public product is will be on the airwaves soon.

Black Moon Rising has been rebuilt with a new line-up. The members will not be named as said time, but a few interesting tidbits can be revealed...

Firstly, only one "new" song is in the works. All of the material for the coming album has existed for years in various forms and has only found completion at this time. So far, we've rebuilt "Crazy Moon" (soon to receive a new title), "Day of the Crow", "Raining Hell" and "Lord of the Gallows". We already have raw demos of all of these tracks and rehearsal demos will be made availible whenever they are recorded.

The 'new' bassist is an old friend from an old band...and this is all you need to know. The drummer, as well, will remain a mystery.

I do have possession (through Alexis) of a very special piece of musical equipment. This guitar is quite amazing and bears the signatures of the entirety of Celtic Frost (excluding that naff fellow on the second guitar). This, of course, is one of the limited H.R. Giger designed run, which I suggest to anyone with a taste for Ibanez guitars.

It's a rather classy piece of equipment and has (and will continue to be) treated with the greatest of respect.

I've been using a Samick SG on all of my previous shows and recordings. It's only recently that a Gibson SG has managed to pop up in any capacity. My old "Warhorse" guitar has been more than 'broken in' and usually is my weapon of choice.

If I could find a Gibson I liked equally, I would probably switch instantly.

This has not been the case.

The recent slew of minor tour dates have been nothing short of a wonderful time. Having the Black Moon Rising project officially become my main gig and function well with me on dual duties of guitar and vocals has made a major difference not only in how I sing, but how I make compose as well. It has both opened doors and created limitations that have shaped an entirely new sound for me. Some of it has been good, some of it needs certain improvement...but the sincerity of the music I feel cannot be denied. This can only develop, evolve and improve over time.

I have yet to decide if the original Howling tapes will ever come to see release. This material is basically a much rawer version of everything heard in Black Moon Rising and it makes me wonder as to if releasing it would serve any purpose but to show the barest origins of an already raw project. I don't know after everything if this is at all nessecary.

We are busy compiling more bootleg and live tracks for yet another document of Black Moon Rising for the Unsung Heroes Records label. I shall post of it's release when it finally comes to see the dark of night/light of day. Otherwise, we are busy with many projects that will unfold in the coming year. Patience is a virtue...exercize it.
